Zahid Khan

Central Spokesperson

Zahid Khan, born on April 14th, 1956 in a small village of Odigram Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan. He is currently serving as a central spokesperson of the Awami National Party (ANP).


Zahid Khan got his early education from his hometown and Intermediate from Govt Degree College Timergarah. He also holds Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (BBA).

Political Career:

Zahid Khan started his political career at a very young age when he was in school. He joined a protest against the then Dictator Ayub Khan and got arrested. Later on, he was released due to his juvenile status. His elder brother Dr. Salaar started politics in Dir (Post-Nawab era) and Zahid Khan followed his path. In 1977, he wrote a letter to the then Minister for Prisons to transfer his brother Dr. Salaar from Central Jail Haripur to Central Jail Peshawar to continue his education. His application was accepted by the then Minister. During his study in Govt Degree College Timergarah, Zahid Khan was also arrested for the killing of Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao and remained for one and a half months in the torture cell.

When the Awami National Party was formed in 1986, Zahid Khan become a member of the Central Committee and remained the President of ANP Rawalpindi from 1987 to 1988. Mr. Zahid Khan became the Central Spokesperson of ANP in 1990 for the first time. He remained the Spokesperson of the Awami National Party with Ajmal Khattak (Late), Asfandyar Wali Khan and currently he holds the same responsibility.

Zahid Khan became a member of the Upper House (Senate of Pakistan) in 1997 for the first time on the ticket of the Awami National Party. During this tenure, he was also a member of the standing committees of the Senate for Health, Water and Power, Sports, and Culture. Zahid Khan once again became a member of the upper house (Senate of Pakistan) in 2009. He also remained the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Senate for Water and Power.

Zahid Khan is currently a member of the Central Committee of the Awami National Party, Constitutional Committee, and Think Tank of the ANP.
