Peshawar: Senior vice president of Awami National Party Senator Haji Mohammad Adeel
has strongly condemned the statement of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani
wherein he said that flood losses could have been averted if Kalabagh Dam had
Haji Adeel said it seemed that prime minister was issuing statements only to save Punjab province. " Had Kalabagh Dam
been made, the floodwater would compounded the crisis in Nowshera, Charsadda and surrounding areas" Adil said.
Haji Mohammad Adil further said it would be far better if the prime
minister had announced to construct small dams at places from where the water
came and destroyed the whole province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said if Bhasha dam and Munda dam had been constructed and the Warsak dam had been cleaned, the province would be safe. He said if small dams had been
constructed, the flood water instead of wrecking destruction, would then be used for agricultural and hydel power generation purposes. Federal government should announce long-term policies for overcoming the energy crisis in the country. He said.
‘The entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was badly affected by floods but neither the
federal government nor the National Disaster Management Authority announced
relief package for it,’ he said, adding they didn’t declare the province as
He demanded of the federal government to immediately pay the arrears of the net hydel profit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa enabling the province to face the post flood situation.
If the federal government did not provide relief as well as arrears to the
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province would go backward, he said. He feared if the
demands were not met by the federal government, the people of the province might launch long march on Islamabad.
He said if the prime minister had an aerial visit of the flood affected areas of the province, he would not have given such statement which clearly showed his sympathy and love only for his province.
Mr Adeel said that the prime minister’s statement was reflective of the fact
that he had no worry even if the flood water sank the whole Pakhtunkhwa. He said in case the dam was constructed the floodwater would have submerged the entire Nowshera, Charsadda and surrounding areas.
