Central President Asfandyar Wali Khan expressed satisfaction on the news of abandoning of controversial Kalabagh Dam (KBD) project.
"Due to KBD all the three provinces were at loggers head with one province, but now with its abandoning federation would emerge as more powerful, Asfandyar Wali said.
Talking to Express News, the Central President ANP stressed the need to explore other options for initiating alternative power generation projects as according to a survey Pakhtunkhwa has a potential to generate over 35000MW electricity on run of rivers only.
"Why WAPDA has not explored it and not serious in exploring alternate power projects as the first objection against KBD was raised by former NWFP governor General Fazal-e-Haq during the eighties," he said.
"Had WAPDA initiated alternate project more than two decades ago it would have initiated power generation by now and thus the scourge of load-shedding could have been avoided by sheer judicious planning and avoiding stress on a controversial project, President said.
Asfandyar Wali Khan has further said that his party fulfilled the promises of the masses by repelling of the concurrent list and remaining the province by incorporating in the constitutional package.
“The efforts of the Pakhtun nation will bear fruit and Awami National Party has disposed of the Kalabagh issue once and for all” he said.
He said that Pakhtunkhwa was not merely a name but it was the identity of the Pakhtun nation and the Pakhtuns have rendered great sacrifices to achieve this goal.
“The name of province has been approved at national level and now other issues will be also resolved,” he maintained. “The concurrent list has to be scraped and the provincial autonomy will be restored. We will control over own resources”, he said.
