Chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has congratulated the people of Pakhtunkhwa for functioning of the first unit of the Malakand-III hydro power project and termed it a historic day. The first unit has started 27MW electricity supply to the national grid.
In a statement, Haider Khan Hoti said the second and third unit of the project will be connected to national grid till June 20 and the project will generate total 81 MW electricity, besides Rs150 billions income annually.
Hoti said the project would help alleviate poverty in the region as it would create job opportunities for the people.
He said the income to be generated from the Malakand-III project will be utilized for the development and wellbeing of the people of the province.
“It is hoped that the project will prove a milestone in achieving the goals of irrigation,” he added.
He said with completion of Bezai irrigation scheme which is linked with the Malakand-III project, more than twenty thousands acre of additional land will be brought under irrigation. The people of Mardan, Swabi and adjacent areas would get benefit from the scheme, Hoti said.
Hoti termed the Malakand-III project a giant leap towards overcoming the energy crisis and giving boost to the irrigation system in the province.
The chief minister appreciated the officials of irrigation department, SHYDO and the engineers for successfully completing and making functional the Malakand –III project.
