Chief Minister of Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has welcomed the PPP leadership for the proposed constitutional package, saying it would usher in new era of democracy and would strengthen the democratic institutions.

The chief minister also praised federal minister for water and power for discarding the controversial scheme of Kala Bagh Dam (KBD) and described it a historic decision and a reflection of national harmony

Commenting on the proposed constitutional package being prepared by the PPP leadership, Ameer Haider Hoti said the Awami National Party (ANP) was fully supportive of the PPP for the constitutional package as it includes the historic decision of renaming the NWFP as Pakhtoonkhwa. “The package will balance the powers between the president and the prime minister,” he remarked.

He said they would always support the decisions and efforts leading to bringing stability and boosting democratic norms in the country.

“It is hoped that the proposed constitutional package would lead to democratic stability and strengthening of democratic institutes as the package would empower the prime minister who can run the democratic government in a right direction,” Ameer Haider Khan Hoti said.
“Renaming the province as Pakhoonkhwa was a long lasting demand of the people of Frontier Province and this dream of the Pakhtun nation is near to be materialized, thanks to the proposed constitutional package,” he added.

Referring to KBD, the chief minister praised federal minister for water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for discarding the controversial shceme, saying the construction of Kalabagh Dam was not in interests of NWFP and Sindh and it was an irresolvable issue.
“Doing away with the disputed project was a brave step on the part of incumbent federal government,” Hoti remarked.

“The decision would greatly help remove the frustrations and reservations of the people of Sindh and NWFP forever and would lead to strengthening national harmony and cohesion in the country,” Hoti said in the statement.

He added that national harmony was the need of the hour due to different circumstances while the issue like KBD was a hurdle in forging national unity.

He further said that all the political parties of the country were in favor of provincial autonomy which was necessary for best and judicious utilization of the available resources for the betterment of the people.
