The Awami National Party’s consultative committee has paid glowing tributes to Shaheed Bashir Ahmad Bilour and other Shaheeds of Dakki Naal Bandi, Peshawar. ANP is proud of all of its martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for defending the country and the Province. However, Bashir Ahmad Bilour is the senior most leader of the Party and the Provincial government who has rendered supreme sacrifice for the Party, the Province and the Nation. His blood, along with the blood of all other martyrs, will not go in vain and it will go a long way in ridding the country from the scourge of extremism and terrorism. We shall continue our non-violent struggle against extremism and terrorism.
The Consultative Committee thanked all individuals, organizations and institutions in the Province, in the country and from around the world who have sent their condolences and have expressed their solidarity with our martyrs and our struggle against terrorism.
The Consultative Committee reiterated the Party’s stated position that extremism and terrorist violence is a threat to the very existence of the country. They made an appeal to all political parties to take a clear stand on this issue. If the experience of the recent past is anything to go by, the terrorists will not forgive any political or religious parties, even those who have literally acted as supporters and/or apologists of the terrorists. It will be an exercise in futility to appease the terrorists.
ANP supports negotiations with all those elements that recognize the right of the State and renounce violence. Those who are not prepared to do it should face effective and meaningful actions.
ANP is of the considered opinion that all of us should express zero tolerance towards all violations of the country’s sovereignty and integrity. We are opposed to the drone strikes and have raised our voice against it. However, we are also opposed to terrorist individuals and networks from within the country and from other countries who have carved out sanctuaries on our soil.
We are of the view that instead of defending ourselves on our doorsteps and in the streets we should go after the terrorist’s sanctuaries. We should evolve a national consensus on a comprehensive strategy for defeating terrorist outfits that are out to destroy our State and society.
Pakhtuns in FATA and Pakhtunkhwa are bearing the brunt of the menace caused by terrorism. Why is the rest of the country not effectively joining this struggle? Is it only the struggle of Pakhtuns who are being killed on both sides of the Durand Line? This is a question that has become more pertinent with the martyrdom of the most senior Pakhtun Political Leader-Senior Minister Pakhtunkhwa Bashir Ahmad Bilour.
We appeal to all ANP workers and sympathizers to be patient and not to get provoked by the provocations of the anti-State elements who want to ignite civil war.
The meeting authorized the party’s central President Asfandyar Wali Khan to contact coalition partners, all political parties and all the State institutions to share ANP’s concerns with them and to prepare for a decisive line of action.
