The central and provincial parliamentary party and consultative committee
meeting, that was held here in Peshawar with Central Senior Vice-President of
the party Haji Mohammad Adeel in the chair, expressed concern over
non-implementation of reforms in the tribal belt as per the wishes of the tribal
The meeting condemned the attack on Party Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and termed
it an attack on the solidarity of Pakhtun nation. The meeting observed the
Pakhtun nation would render sacrifices to protect their national assets,
including Wali Bagh, which is considered as a symbol of peace in Pakhtun
The meeting termed the attack in Wali Bagh as a grave conspiracy against
Pakhtuns hatched by certain elements to appease their alien masters. The
participants were of the opinion that other political parties should also join
hands with the ANP in combating the menace of suicide attacks and other acts of
lawlessness, as it was a problem being faced by the entire nation.
The participants also showed anger over the Wali Bagh tragedy and expressed firm
resolve that such cowardly acts would not budge the party from its principled
stand. Some members said the militants had mistaken the initiative of peace
taken by ANP as they (militants) considered the peace dialogue as weakness of
the government. The party should give a clear message to those involved in
terrorist activities that ANP would not succumb to their pressure and would
fight to bring lasting peace to the province, the members added.
The ANP parliamentarians also paid glowing tributes to Yar Zameen, the personal
guard of Asfandyar Wali Khan who laid down his life to save his party’s chief
and others It was also decided the party leadership would continue to inform the
coalition partners and quarters concerned about the problems faced by the people
living in troubled areas, particularly Swat and Hangu.
The meeting also discussed party matters and decided the party workers would
create awareness among the masses about the party’s stance on the ongoing
situation. Notable among the participants were Provincial President ANP Afrasiab
Khattak, Chief Minister Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haideer Khan Hoti, and Federal Minister
for Local Governments Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Senior Minister Bashir Bilour,
Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and others.
Meanwhile Malgari Doctoran, an organisation of doctors, has condemned the
suicide attack on Asfandyar Wali Khan, the ANP president and chairman of the
National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Presiding over a meeting of the doctors’ body here Sunday, Malgari Doctoran of
Sawabi district, President Dr Mohammad Jaseem said that Pakhtuns could not be
demoralised by such cowardly acts. He said the ANP would continue its struggle
against extremism and terrorism in the province. He urged the Pakhtuns to forge
unity in their ranks against militancy, saying that the nation was passing
through a critical phase of its history.
Dr Jaseem said during the colonial rule, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan propagated the
message of non-violence and settlement of disputes through peaceful means of
negotiations. Meanwhile, Malik Gohar Zaman, member of ANP central council, Jehan
Zeb Khan, district general secretary, and Swabi Tehsil Naib Nazim Shamsul Qamar
also condemned the suicide attack.
