Peshawar: Central President of the Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan on
Friday said that ANP had a commitment with the Pakhtun nation to restore peace
therefore his party would not bother what the NATO thinks and what are its
reservations therefore the peace accord and Nizam-e-Adl Regulations would be
implemented according to the wishes of the people of Malakand Division.

“We have signed the agreement and we would stand by it despite all the
pressures. I have to look after my land and protect my people, it does not
bother me what are the reservations of NATO and other forces, we have rendered
uncountable sacrifices for peace,” Asfandyar Wali Khan told media after
condoling the death of ANP’s MPA Alamzeb Khan at his residence.

Criticising the critics of peace deal with Tanzeem-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi
(TNSM) Chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad, Asfandyar Wali Khan said the so-called
liberals were not even know the situation and they were not able to judge the
agony of the people of Swat had to pass through in two years. “We are more
liberal than any one but we want peace and have started negotiation process for
it, this is our commitment and we would stand by our commitment. We do not
bother what the world would think about it,” Asfandyar Wali remarked.

This time, he vowed, “we would not allow any one to sabotage this peace deal. We
are ready to resign ministries in case any one tried to exert pressure because
we would not backtrack on our commitment,” Asfandyar Wali Khan remarked and
added that President Zardari was well aware of the agreement before it was
signed with Sufi Mohammad to bring peace to the valley.

The ANP chief while lauding the support of all political parties for the peace
agreement said that there was no political force which did not lend its
unconditional support to this agreement. “The unanimous support for the peace
agreement shows how much this agreement is important therefore after this
support it would not be possible for the government to backpedal of its
commitment,” he remarked.

Asfandyar urged the critics not to just see ‘flaws’ in the agreement rather they
should project its positive aspects which returned normalcy to the trouble-hit
scenic valley, adding that “If and buts always weakened the endeavours made for
durable peace.

Asfandyar Wali said that USA had accepted this agreement as there was statement
came from US secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Asfandyar Wali further said and
vowed that they would convince the world about the agreement and would remove
their reservations as the agreement was in accordance of Pakistan’s
constitution.

Replying to a question Asfandyar said that provincial government has yet to send
the draft of Nizam-e-Adl Regulation to president of Pakistan as law ministry
needs to finalise it.

Earlier Asfandyar Khan went to the residence of ANP’s MPA Alamzeb Khan for offer
condolences. He met with Alamzeb Khan’s family and said the party and Pakhtuns
were proud of the sacrifice given by Alamzeb Khan for Pakhtunland.

Provincial General Secretary of ANP Tajuddin Khan, Secretary Information
Arbab Tahir Khan Khalil, President City district Peshawar Malik Mustafa and
others were also present there.
