Peshawar, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti said rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas and settlement of affectees is priority. Distribution of compensation among affectees through Watan Card will starts this month. Fulfillment of promises made with Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa under Kerry-Lugar Bill is essential. There is complete political harmony in the province. Terrorists will not be spared to take undue advantage from the circumstances. We are thankful to US government for assistance in relief and rehabilitation activities after historical devastating flood.
He expressed these views while talking US ambassador Anne.W Patterson here at
his office. Senior Provincial Ministers Rahimdad Khan and Basher Ahmad Bilour,
Provinncial Minsiter for Information Mian Iftekhar Hussain and US counsel in
Peshawar and personnel were also present. Matters pertaining to collective
situations of security in the province, government steps for rehabilitation and
settlement of flood affectees and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure
remained under discussion during the meeting.
The Chief Minister said people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is confronting challenges
of terrorism and flood simultaneously and estimates of large scale loss to human
life, public and private property, agriculture, live stock and other sectors is
approximately 200 billion adding that the provincial government has freezed new
developmental schemes of current ADP and has shifted 17 billion for
rehabilitation and early recovery of flood affectees. He said process of payment
of compensation to heirs of flood deceased and injured is in progress and
compensation has been paid to affectees according to initial lists. Process of
Financial assistance to owners of fully and partial damaged houses and other
affected families through Watan Cards will starts this month. He said almost
entire work of early recovering of damaged bridges and roads in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa has been completed, however, clearance of land routes in upper Swat
will be completed within three weeks. He lauded efforts of local people in
clearance of land routes. The Chief Minister thanked US ambassador for extending
support in rehabilitation and relief activities particularly in bridges.
He further added Chakdara including Ayub Bridge had been opened for traffic.
Hoti apprised US ambassador of reservations over sharing formula of aid under
Kerry-Lugar bill and stressed fulfillment of promises made with Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa government in this connection. He said terrorists have adjusted
target killing as part of their strategy during flooding and had targeted son of
provincial minister Mian Iftekhar Hussain and commandant FC Sifwat Ghayoor. They
have also targeted sister of Asfandyar Wali Khan and prominent Doctor, Dr
Gulalai which she survive fortunately. He said terrorists would not be spared to
take undue advantage from the circumstances. He maintained importance of people
support for elimination of terrorism. He also gave reference of role of people
in Malakand division in this connection.
He said people by giving mandate to brothers of ANP MPAs Dr. Shamsher Khan and
Alamzeb Khan in the by-election after their martyrdom has stamped confidence of
the people over government policies against terrorism. Citing complete
traditional political harmony in the province, the chief minister said coalition
government of ANP and PPPP is successfully working in the province and have
cordial relations with the opposition.
US Ambassador expressed sorrow over life material loss due to flooding and
expressed solidarity with affected families. She assured her government would
continue assistance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for elimination of
terrorism and recovery of flood devastation.
