PESHAWAR: The Minister for schools and literacy Sardar Hussain Babak yesterday said that the present provincial government was taking all out effective measures for the promotion and development of Pashto language.
To achieve this goal Pashto will be introduced as compulsory subject up to class 10th and will recruit 169 Pashto Subject Specialists in this respect, he added.
He said this remarks while addressing a workshop titled “Pashto Script” as chief guest at Pakhtunkhwa Text Book Board Peshawar. Chairman Text Book Board Dr. Fazal Rahim Marwat, Secretary Board Mubarrak Husain Shah, Chairman Pashto Department, University of Peshawar Salma Shaheen, Dr. Iqbal Nasim Khattak and other intellectuals and teachers were present on this occasion.
The Minister stressed the participants to utilize their energies for the promotion and development of Pashto language and culture and engage mass media as an effective tool in this regard.
Sardar Hussain Babak said that in past Pashto language was continuously neglected due to which the language could not obtain proper importance at national level. For its effective role, he urged upon Pukhtoons to do their correspondence in Pashto language. He asked them to be nationalist for protecting and obtaining their rights as these rights could not be obtained without nationalism.
He also asked bureaucracy to play their role in this connection. Condemning religious extremism, Sardar Hussain Babak said that due to this tendency Pukhtoons nation has been incurring heavy loss in shape of lives and properties since last several years.
Babak appealed intellectuals and politicians to play their role in countering this menace as peace was prerequisite for development and prosperity of the province. He also announced an increase in salaries of the employees of Text Book Board.
Addressing the workshop, Dr. Fazal Rahim, Dr. Iqbal Nasim and Salma Shaheen stressed the need of trained Pashto language teachers for the promotion of language at primary level.
